Empowering Sustainable Development

About Us

The focus of GECL is to provide user-informed environmental products and services for socio-economic development with the aim of bridging the gap from science to practice. The target is to facilitate the transition from research to operations by making useful science usable for decision-making in Africa and beyond. The approach is to work with relevant actors and stakeholders to produce information to aid decision-making within a given context, preferably at the community scale. The GECL approach to product and service production utilises the co-production method, the value chain of which includes user engagement, design, scientific and user evaluation, the use of appropriate dissemination and feedback techniques, and innovative methods and tools such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to produce information to aid decision-making at different scales.  GECL provides services and undertakes both research and development projects as well as those at the interface of research and development.  Among others, GECL will use the Adaptation Research Alliance principles for research for impact while providing services.
