Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Prof. Benjamin Lamptey is a distinguished figure in meteorology and climate science and is currently a visiting professor at the University of Leeds. He was a lead author for the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) AR6 WG1, released in August 2021. He serves as an Editorial Board Member/Associate Editor/Guest Editor on various journals such as the MDPI Atmosphere, Environmental Research Climate, Frontiers in Environmental Science and Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society. He has served and continues to serve on various International Committees including Scientific Steering Committees.
Prof. Lamptey, who started his career as a weather forecaster at the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), has significantly contributed to the advancement of Africa’s climate science, with critical roles at the African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) in Niger, where he joined as Deputy Director-General and later became the Acting Director General. He moved to academia again as a Cheney Fellow at the University of Leeds in 2019, following previous academic and leadership positions at the Regional Maritime University in Ghana and as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in the USA. He is involved in a mentorship programme at the University of Leeds.
His academic journey includes training at prestigious institutions such as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, UK Meteorological Office College (Certificate in Weather Forecasting), University of Reading (MSc in Applied and Agricultural Meteorology), London College of Business and Computing all in the UK, and the Pennsylvania State University, USA (MSc in Meteorology, PhD in Geosciences with minor in High-Performance Computing). He is deeply engaged in capacity development across Africa. He is deeply engaged in capacity development across African universities, mentoring in both UK and Africa and fostering practical problem-solving in climate science. Prof. Lamptey, focuses on bridging research and operational practices to address pressing environmental challenges worldwide.
